Nikola Kitanovski, MMus

Professor in the artistic field of Singing

Nikola Kitanovski is one of those rare artists originating from this region who were, not only able to build, but to maintain continuously for more than two and a half decades, an impressive solo career in opera theaters which occupy a special place, importance and role in the world.

He was born in Skopje, Macedonia, where he completed his primary and secondary music education. He took bachelor’s and master’s degree in solo singing in the class of primadonna Biserka Cvejić at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
The beginning of his career dates back to 1987 when he performed as a soloist in almost all major centers of Yugoslavia.

He won first prize at the International Competition for solo singers’ “Katia Ricciarelli” 1991 in Mantua, Italy.
He possesses numerous national awards, as well as the annual award (1995) of the National Theatre in Belgrade, with which ties him a 20-years-old cooperation and more than 240 appearances in different roles.

In a career of 25 years at the opera podium, Kitanovski successfully performed in opera houses in Rome, Naples, Bologna, Genoa, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Lyon, Marseille, Madrid, San Sebastian, Tokyo, Bangkok, Warsaw, Bucharest, and at festivals in Taormina, Torre del lago, Aspendos, the Bolshoi in Moscow, Dubrovnik summer Festival, Ohrid’s Summer and BEMUS, where he was convincingly and with ease bringing roles, such as: Othello, Radames, Manrico, Kavaradosija, Herman P, Don Jose, Turidua, Chania, Rodolfo, Pinkerton, Mauricio and others, with the artistic merit, high level of performance and interpretability.

Since 2004, Kitanovski is teaching at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
Kitanovski was also entrusted with the two-year management of the Opera Studio of the National Theatre’s Opera in Belgrade.
