Music Science

Music Science study program includes three study levels:

1.      Bachelor four-year academic studies (240 ECTS). This study level includes the following modules:
– Music pedagogy
– Music theory
– Musicology
– Ethnomusicology

2.      Master and Specialist academic studies:
– One-year master academic studies (60 ECTS) include all modules from the previous study level
– One-year specialist academic studies (60 ECTS) available only in Music theory module

3.      PhD three-year academic studies (180 ECTS) include the following modules:
– Music pedagogy
– Music theory
– Musicology
– Ethnomusicology

Music pedagogy module is focused toward the education of music education/music teachers in preschools, general education schools, general and vocational high schools, as well as solfeggio teachers in music schools of all levels.

The objective of Music theory module is formation of music theory teachers with education and training of professionals in all aspects of music analysis, able to work creatively and responsibly in the field of theory or cultural institutions and media.

Musicology module offers students a comprehensive music education with wide possibilities for the choice of the profession. Students develop professional competencies in various scientific fields. Through an interdisciplinary approach characteristic for musicology, they are empowered for creative, individual research work or participation in research projects. By applying and integrating acquired contemporary knowledge of scientific research and theory, students develop skills for answering complex contextual musicological issues by applying scientific methods.

At the Ethnomusicology and ethnochoreology module students get profound understanding of music and ethnomusicological phenomena and develop capacity for answering complex contextual ethnomusicological issues. By using scientific methods and interdisciplinary integration of knowledge from diverse scientific fields, students gain competencies for scientifically and problem-based individual research, along with work in research projects.
