Miomir Simonović, MMus
Miomir Simonović completed both his undergraduate and master’s studies at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade under the mentorship of Professor Tahir Kulenović. During his academic years, he distinguished himself by winning numerous awards at national and international competitions, including the Third Prize at the 23rd Yugoslav Competition of Musical Artists held in Zagreb in 1989.
He enhanced his artistic training through multiple summer flute courses with renowned Professors Alain Marion and Raymond Guiot. From 1987 to 1989, as a scholarship recipient of the Foundation for Scientific and Artistic Youth of Serbia, he continued his studies at the Hector Berlioz Conservatory in Paris under Professor Raymond Guiot. To date, he has given over fifty recitals in Belgrade and throughout Serbia, as well as in North Macedonia, France, and Spain. As a soloist, he has performed with the Niš Symphony Orchestra, the RTS Symphony Orchestra, the Army Orchestra of Serbia, and the chamber ensembles Amorosso and Camerata Serbica.
He began his teaching career in 1987 at the “Jovan Bandur” Music School in Pančevo, later continuing at the “Josip Slavenski” School in Belgrade and the “Živorad Grbić” School in Valjevo. During his postgraduate studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in the class of Professor Tahir Kulenović. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, where he advanced from assistant to his current position as Full Professor of Flute. Over the years, 53 students have graduated from his class—many of whom have pursued further studies abroad, built successful pedagogical careers across Serbia, or become members of renowned ensembles such as the Belgrade Opera Orchestra, the RTS Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Opera Orchestra “Madlenianum.”
Students from Miomir Simonović’s class have won over 100 awards at national and international competitions.
As a distinguished flutist, Miomir Simonović has served as a jury member at numerous international competitions, including the World Open Online Music Competition (2010–present), the International Competition of Musical Youth (2007 and 2017), the Lions European Music Competition (2018), and the Flutists’ Meetings “Tahir Kulenović” (1999–present), where he is the long-standing artistic director and jury president of the competition within the event. He has also conducted masterclasses at the “Flute Days” festival in Banja Luka (2022) and at the International Flutist Podium in Mihajlov, North Macedonia (2025).
Miomir Simonović is a permanent member of the Flute Choir “Belgrade Syrinx,” with which he has performed numerous concerts. He has released CDs featuring music by Bach, Haydn, and Mozart. He also appeared on the choir album “Collegium Musicum,” recording the Stihira by Aleksandar Obradović, and participated in the recording of the album “Ante Grgin – Portrait,” released by the Swiss label MAKOPHON/EDITION.
