Milica Djelić
Milica Đelić graduated in Italian Language and Literature from the Department of Italian Studies at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, in 1998. During her studies, she attended Italian language courses at the University for Foreigners in Perugia (Università per stranieri) and at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo” (Università degli studi di Urbino “Carlo Bo”). She has taught Italian in primary and secondary schools in Belgrade, as well as at the Foreign Language School of the Ilija M. Kolarac Foundation. Through many years of teaching at the “Josip Slavenski” Secondary Music School, she developed a particular interest in music and Italian for musicians, especially in relation to musical repertoire.
Since 2009, she has been a lecturer in Italian at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, where she teaches at both undergraduate and master’s level. She works with students of solo singing on understanding and interpreting opera and vocal repertoire, improving pronunciation in sung texts, and developing their language skills. She has also taught at the Department of Solo Singing of the Faculty of Philology and Arts in Kragujevac and is currently engaged as an Italian language lecturer at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.
Her research interests include the study of the syntactic, lexical and morphological features of opera libretti, as well as the analysis and translation of operatic literature from the 17th to the 20th century and of song lyrics and arie antiche. She is also involved in the linguistic preparation of students for participation in opera productions.
She is co-author of the textbook L’italiano nella musica – Selezione di brani operistici e cameristici, analisi e comprensione (Faculty of Music, 2024), intended for students of solo singing. In 2024, she participated in the project Giacomo Puccini, la sua musica, le sue muse, in collaboration with the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Turin, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Embassy of Italy in Belgrade. As part of an Erasmus+ staff mobility programme in 2025, she taught and pursued professional development in the field of vocal and music-theatre studies at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Turin. She also participated in the linguistic preparation of the performers of Opera Nova & Kragujevac Orchestra for the stage production of Handel’s opera Imeneo, working on pronunciation and the understanding of the libretto (Knjaževsko-Serbian Theatre, Kragujevac, 2019).
