Sonja Lončar, DMA
Sonja Lončar, born in 1978 in Belgrade, graduated from the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, and then completed her master’s and Konzertexamen studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, Germany. She earned her Doctoral Degree in the Arts in chamber music from the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade.
As a soloist and member of the piano duo LP Duo (www.lpduo.com), she has won over thirty international awards, including the City of Belgrade Award, two awards from the Association of Music Artists, and the prestigious Bryno Frey Stiftung award in Germany. LP Duo was recognized as one of the top eight piano duos worldwide at the Dranoff Miami Two Pianos competition (USA, 2008).
They have performed across Europe, Asia, and the USA at festivals and concert halls such as Carnegie Hall (USA), Kennedy Center (USA), Meguro Persimmon Hall in Tokyo (Japan), the Royal Theatre and Opera in Copenhagen (Denmark), the Music in Pyeong Chang Festival (South Korea), Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), SONAR Festival in Barcelona (Spain), National University of Singapore, TodaysArt Festival (Netherlands), Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (Netherlands), among many others.
They have premiered more than 50 works by both domestic and international contemporary composers.
She has released 12 musical CDs and vinyl editions for major record labels such as Universal Music, with some of her recordings included in the catalog of Deutsche Grammophon.
She regularly lectures domestically and internationally at festivals, professional conferences, and universities (including the University of Illinois Chicago, University of Cincinnati, Goldsmiths University of London, National University of Singapore, Technical University Delft, and others).
She has achieved great success composing applied music for theater, film, and television.
She is one of the leaders of the Quantum Music project, supported by the Creative Europe program, with partners including the University of Oxford, Ars Electronica Festival, TodaysArt Amsterdam, Sonar Barcelona, the Musicological Institute of SANU, the National University of Singapore, and others.
Since 2011, she has been working as a professor at the Department of Chamber Music at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade.
