Slobodan Gerić, DMA

Head of the Department | Professor in the artistic field of Double bass

Slobodan Gerić graduated and received his master’s degree and PhD from the Faculty of Music, Belgrade, in the class of Prof. Nebojša Ignjatović. He furthered his professional education with Prof Ludwig Streicher in Vienna and Francesco Petracchi in Italy. As a soloist he performed with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Niš Symphony Orchestra, Klagenfurt Symphony Orchestra, Belgrade String Orchestra “Dušan Skovran”, Chamber Orchestra “Ljubica Marić” and Youth Orchestra “Borislav Pašćan”.
He was a soloist with “Dušan Skovran” (1985-1992) and a principle bass with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra (1994-2007). Slobodan performs as a solo bass with Saint George Strings, “Camerata Serbica”, Balkan Chamber Academy, Ensemble for Other New Music and is a member of ethno-jazz ensemble “Ognjen and Friends”.
His work was awarded many times: Concert of the Year 2007, given by the Association of Musical Artists of Serbia; October Award of the City of Belgrade, for students in 1984 and with “Dušan Skovran” in 1991; Concert of the Year 2006, with Saint Georges Strings under the leadership of Gordan Nikolić, given by the city of Belgrade; numerous first place awards at national competitions.
As a member of various ensembles he performed in USA, China, Russia, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden, France, and Spain. He is a full time professor at the Faculty of Music, Belgrade, and many of his students have successful careers in Serbia and abroad.
