Senka Belić, PhD
Dr. Senka R. Belić (1972) is a music theorist and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. She completed her undergraduate and master’s studies at the same institution and earned her PhD with the dissertation Counterpoint Eloquence: Musical-Rhetorical Strategies in Marian Music from Josquin to Monteverdi, under the supervision of Dr. Milena Medić.
Since 1996, she has been teaching courses in Counterpoint, Analysis of Musical Compositions, History of Music Theory, and Fundamentals of Digital Competence for Musicians, as well as specialized counterpoint seminars at both undergraduate and master’s levels. She has distinguished herself as a mentor and as a member of numerous master’s thesis committees. Her teaching has consistently received high evaluations in student surveys. Under Dr. Belić’s guidance, students actively participate in the Annual Meetings of Music Theory Students, and their works are regularly published in the Faculty of Music’s proceedings.
Dr. Belić’s research focuses on counterpoint and the history of music theory. She has authored more than thirty-five scholarly papers published in national and international journals, proceedings, and electronic publications. Several of these works were produced in collaboration with colleagues Dr. Zoran Božanić and Dr. Srđan Teparić. She also regularly participates in national and international conferences.
From 2019 to 2024, she contributed to the international DEMUSIS project, participating in the development and implementation of the course Fundamentals of Digital Competence for Musicians. She is actively involved in the Serbian Society for Music Theory, serving as Secretary since its founding in 2019 and as a member of the Executive Board since 2021. She also serves as Secretary of the Journal of the Serbian Society for Music Theory, and is a member of the editorial board of the online portal Glossary of Music Theory. Since 2024, she has held the position of Head of the Music Theory Department Council, Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
