Vice-dean for teaching | Professor in the artistic field of Violin

Gordana Matijević Nedeljković earned both her BA and master’s degrees under Professor Fern Rašković at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. During her studies, she was the recipient of numerous awards at national and federal competitions, as well scholarships from the Marija Petrović and M. Žeželj Majer funds. She was awarded a diploma at the young artists competition of Yugoslavia (Zagreb, 1987), the Prize for Best Interpretation at the Music in Serbia Festival (1988), and second prize for the interpretation of chamber music at the International Review of Composers (1992), among other accolades.

Gordana Matijević Nedeljković has been a member of the Belgrade String Orchestra “Dušan Skovran” since 1984, serving as concertmaster from 1987 to 2024. She has performed in numerous concerts with the orchestra both in Serbia and abroad, and as a soloist in Greece, Slovenia, Russia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Turkey. She has participated in the following festivals: BEMUS, BELEF, NOMUS, the International Review of Composers, “Mokranjac Days”, “Marble and Sound”, the International Music Festival of Santorini, “Ohrid Summer”, “Europe in St. Petersburg”, and the Sofia Music Weeks. As a soloist, she has collaborated with distinguished conductors and artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Sreten Krstić, Ronald Zollman, Vladimir Chernushenko, Christian Gansh, Claudio Vandelli, Erasmo Gaudiomonte, Conrad van Alphen, Toomas Capten. As a member of the orchestra, she received the October Award of the City of Belgrade in 1991.

She is a keen exponent of contemporary music (premieres in Serbia: Paul Patterson – Violin Concerto No. 1, Op. 72, Svetislav Božić – Žitije Zografa Ribničkog, Ralph Vaughan Williams – Concerto Academico, Arvo Pärt – Tabula Rasa, among others), She also recorded and gave the world premiere of Sullen Earth, a concert by Ian Wilson, which the composer dedicated to her.

Since 1986, she has been continuously engaged in teaching at the Faculty of Music, within the Department of String Instruments, and has held the title of Tenured Professor since 2014. She served as Head of the Department of String Instruments from 2008 to 2024. As of 2024, she holds the position of Vice Dean for Teaching. She was also a member of the Senate of the University of Arts in Belgrade from 2016 to 2024, and has been a member of the National Council for Higher Education since 2018.

She is a recipient of the Big Plaque of the university of Arts (2015), awarded for outstanding contribution to the development of the Faculty of Music and the University of Arts in Belgrade.
