Slobodan Gerić, DMA
Slobodan Gerić is a renowned double bass player and teacher. In 2024 he was appointed dean of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. He completed graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and attended specialisation courses with Ludwig Streicher (Vienna) and Franco Pettracchi (Siena).
As a soloist, he played with the Belgrade Philharmonic, Sarajevo Philharmonic, Niš Symphony Orchestra and other. He was solo double bassist of the Belgrade Strings (1985–1992), lead double bassist of the Belgrade Philharmonic (1994–2007), and chamber orchestra “St. George’s Strings” (2006–2023). He performed around the world and collaborated with artists such as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Mutti, Lucciano Pavaroti, and Hose Carreras.
Gerić won many awards including a Great Golden Plaque of the University of Arts, Association of Musical Artists of Serbia Award for the best concert in 2007, City of Belgrade October Prize, “Aleksandar Pavlović” award for contributing to popularisation of Serbian music in 2024.
As a full professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, he was the head of the Department for String instruments. Gerić is the founder of double bass class at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka, and in School for Musically Gifted in Ćuprija. He is also the founder of the “Bassomania” festival, a manifestation which has promoted double bass for more than 30 years.
